CASE STUDY

    North Star Case Study

Beijing North Star Office Tower, Beijing, China ( 12,668 m2.) is a collaboration between Design Group Five Partnership, TED Design, Toronto and C.H. World Design, Beijing. Our consortium was selected after an international design competition. The client, The Government of China, wanted to showcase a ¡°North American¡± office building design concept that used approaches, materials and detailing not typical of indigenous designs. The scope of work included all public spaces such as main lobby, corridors, washrooms, elevator cabs and lobbies. The building is located adjacent to the 2008 Beijing Olympics Site.

The vision given to us was open and multidirectional. Our three managing directors, accepted the challenge to each personally create a concept for the project. All three design directions were presented at the initial presentation in Beijing and a direction was agreed upon and options were explored. After several presentations and revisions we were able to capture the client vision.

Our specifications were sensitive to environmental sustainability and included consideration for low VOC materials, products with recycled content, and water use reduction strategies in washrooms.

Contract documents and tenders were coordinated through the Beijing office.
